## What is Avianca A320 Business Class like now?

Avianca A320 Business Class Americas is a front-cabin product with more space and reclining seats, rather than a long-haul flat bed. Recent reviews describe an adapted 12-seat, three-row, two-by-two layout, where the former middle-seat space becomes a center console or tray.

A better flight starts with a seat plan everyone can use.

The [May 2025 A320 review from One Mile at a Time](https://onemileatatime.com/reviews/avianca-business-class-a320/) shows how this conversion widens the usable seats. It differs from simply leaving a normal middle seat empty, but it also differs from a large, purpose-built American-style First Class recliner.

For families, that makes the product most interesting when two adjacent seats, a little more working room and the fare’s ground benefits improve the journey. It should not be chosen on the assumption that a child will have a bed.

This guide combines official policies checked on October 10, 2026 with attributed cabin observations. [Avianca’s current seat page](https://www.avianca.com/en/avianca-experience/onboard/seats) warns that features vary while some aircraft await their final seats, so confirm the cabin assigned to your flight.

## Does the A320neo have a better Business Class seat?

The A320neo name alone does not guarantee a better Business Class seat or a different onboard service. Check the actual seating layout and Business Class Americas inclusions in the booking, rather than choosing from the aircraft label alone.

A [July 2026 A320neo review on BOG–MEX](https://rgvjetsetter.com/2026/07/24/review-avianca-a320neo-business-class-bogota-mexico-city/) also describes the adapted premium seats and personal-device entertainment. That is one documented flight, not proof that every A320neo has identical fittings.

On the official [single-aisle seat comparison](https://www.avianca.com/en/avianca-experience/onboard/seats), Business Class Americas occupies rows 1–3 and advertises recline up to 10 degrees, with aircraft variation noted. The separate B787 INSIGNIA product has the flat-bed offering. Do not use INSIGNIA photographs to judge an A320 booking.

## Which seats should families choose?

Choose a same-row window-and-aisle pair for an adult and child, then position other travelers beside or across from them. Start with a complete pair in row 2 or 3 if traveling with an infant, because Avianca’s current A319/A320 rules restrict infants from row 1.

Simplified seating pattern, not to scale. Seat letters can vary. Confirm the labels and configuration in your own booking.

The simplified pattern above reflects the adapted cabin described in recent reviews. Seat letters can be unusual or vary between maps; use the labels in your booking rather than assuming the right window is always “F.”

For four ticketed travelers, two pairs across the aisle are a useful starting arrangement. For three, compare a pair plus an opposite-aisle seat with three adjacent Economy seats: one adult helping two children may prefer a continuous row.

### Family tip

A small Business Class cabin can have enough upgrade seats for your group without having the seat pairs you need. Ask about the actual arrangement before paying, especially if a young child needs an adult immediately beside them.

The bulkhead can change access to floor storage and the feeling of legroom. Treat “front row” as a seat to inspect, rather than an automatic comfort upgrade.

## Can babies and car seats travel in this cabin?

Avianca permits infant travel in Business Class subject to its seating and restraint rules, but the purchased-upgrade service currently excludes passengers traveling with infants under two. Buying an eligible Business Class ticket and upgrading an existing Economy ticket are different booking decisions.

[Avianca’s infant guidance](https://ayuda.avianca.com/hc/en-us/articles/13091339075355-What-should-I-consider-when-flying-with-an-infant) restricts infants from row 1 on A319/A320 aircraft and from emergency exits. It says an infant using their own seat needs a child ticket and an approved car seat with a built-in harness; the seat placement must keep other passengers’ exit unobstructed.

Its bassinet service applies to specified wide-body aircraft and is not an A320 Business Class feature. Confirm the infant’s ticket, assigned seat and accepted restraint directly with Avianca before completing the booking.

The [FAA’s child-restraint guidance](https://www.faa.gov/travelers/kids-corner) explains the aircraft approval label, child/device limits and manufacturer installation requirements. Do not assume extra cabin space proves that a particular restraint can be secured correctly.

The broader [travel-with-kids workflow](https://www.bestplacestotravelwithkids.com/how-to-travel-with-kids/) helps you keep documents, feeding supplies and disruption essentials in the same plan as the seat booking.

## What do meals, bags and lounge access include?

A complete Business Class Americas fare advertises dining, checked bags and premium ground services, but a separately purchased upgrade has its own conditions. Compare the exact inclusions for each traveler and segment before treating the upgrade price as your final total.

The current [Business Class Americas page](https://www.avianca.com/en/avianca-experience/classes-and-fares/business-class/americas) advertises a personal item, a carry-on up to 10 kg, and two checked bags up to 32 kg each. It describes snacks on shorter flights and fuller menus on selected routes, so a substantial meal is not the same promise on every service.

![Illustrated empty airport gate with coral luggage, a document pouch and a parked red-tailed passenger aircraft.](https://www.bestplacestotravelwithkids.com/images/articles/ia-002-avianca-a320-business-class-inline-01-airport.webp)

Check which lounge is available at the actual departure airport, whether your ticket or upgrade grants access, and the eligibility of each child. Do not assume one adult’s entitlement includes every family member.

Priority processing may reduce some airport friction, but it does not remove the need for connection time, documents or gate checks. Build those into your [family vacation booking plan](https://www.bestplacestotravelwithkids.com/how-to-plan-a-family-vacation/).

Read the [current purchased-upgrade conditions](https://www.avianca.com/en/my-booking/services/business-class-upgrade) before applying the full-fare bag allowance to an upgrade. The original fare’s conditions remain relevant, and the older Plusgrade baggage benefit appears in a separate historical section.

Keep food your child will eat available within the route’s rules. Ask Avianca about specific meal needs; a photograph from another flight does not establish today’s menu.

## Does the A320 have screens or internet Wi-Fi?

Plan to use your own phone or tablet for Avianca A320 entertainment. Current official guidance also describes a gradual internet Wi-Fi rollout, so neither “all aircraft have internet” nor “none have internet” is a reliable fleet-wide assumption.

Avianca’s [entertainment announcement](https://www.avianca.com/es/sobre-nosotros/noticias-corporativas/2025/julio-31-2) distinguishes personal-device viewing on A320 aircraft from built-in screens on B787 aircraft. Bring headphones and download suitable content before leaving home.

![Illustrated personal tablet, blue headphones, notebook and travel pouch on an aircraft tray beside a window.](https://www.bestplacestotravelwithkids.com/images/articles/ia-002-avianca-a320-business-class-inline-02-entertainment.webp)

[Avianca’s current connectivity guidance](https://www.avianca.com/en/avianca-experience/onboard/connectivity) explains the progressive rollout. Its [detailed connectivity conditions](https://www.avianca.com/es/experiencia-avianca/a-bordo/conectividad) distinguish entertainment access from internet packages and say availability varies by aircraft.

Connecting to an onboard network to watch local content is not the same as having internet for messages or downloads. A charged device and an offline activity are a useful fallback even when Wi-Fi is advertised.

## Should you buy a Business fare or upgrade later?

Buy the fare that secures the seating and conditions your family needs when those are essential to the trip. A later purchased upgrade can be useful when its price is attractive and suitable seats are available, but it is a conditional service rather than a promise of adjacent seats.

Current [Avianca purchased-upgrade terms](https://www.avianca.com/en/my-booking/services/business-class-upgrade) require online purchases to cover all passengers on the booking, while airport purchases may cover one or all. Upgrades are sold by flight segment, and Avianca does not guarantee a particular seat or cabin location.

The same terms exclude travelers with infants under two from this purchased service. They also retain the original ticket’s fare conditions, so paying for the cabin upgrade does not automatically turn an Economy ticket into a fully flexible Business fare.

If one child needs an adult beside them, upgrading only part of the family can create a new supervision problem. Compare the final combined cost and acceptable seat arrangement before you commit.

## Is Avianca A320 Business Class worth it with kids?

Avianca A320 Business Class is worth considering when adjacent pairs, extra room and benefits you will use justify the complete family cost. It is less compelling when your main aim is a flat bed, guaranteed internet or getting three people together in one continuous row.

Compare these decisions against the actual quote:

Family decision guide; these are planning judgments, not guaranteed service outcomes.

|Your priority | Business may help | Check first |

|Adult beside one child | A paired seating arrangement | Two adjacent seats, not just cabin availability |

|One adult helping two children | More individual room | Whether three adjacent Economy seats work better |

|Longer flight | Recline and added working space | Assigned seat version and the child’s routine |

|Airport comfort | Eligible lounge and priority services | Airport, opening times and each child’s access |

|More luggage | Full Business fare allowances | Which bag benefits a purchased upgrade actually adds |

Add each traveler’s premium across every segment in the [family trip budget planner](https://www.bestplacestotravelwithkids.com/tools/family-trip-budget-planner/). Use the benefits you will actually need, rather than assigning full value to a bag you will not check or a lounge you cannot visit.

If you are comparing cabin concepts, our [United MAX 8 First Class guide](https://www.bestplacestotravelwithkids.com/united-737-max-8-first-class/) explains a different recliner product. That comparison helps set expectations; the carriers’ routes, fares and family policies still need separate checks.

## What should you confirm before booking?

Confirm the assigned A320 cabin, available seat pairs, infant eligibility and the exact fare or upgrade inclusions before paying. Then check device preparation, meal arrangements and any connection requirements close to departure.

Use a departure that fits the family day as well as the fare. The [nap-window flight planner](https://www.bestplacestotravelwithkids.com/tools/nap-window-flight-planner/) can help compare flight timing with your child’s normal routine, but it cannot predict whether a child will sleep onboard.

Save the booking’s cabin description, seat assignments and service terms. For this product, those details are more useful than relying on the word “Business” alone.

## Frequently asked questions

Can children sleep flat in Avianca A320 Business Class?

This A320 Business Class Americas product has reclining seats, not flat beds. Plan around your child's usual sleep needs and flight timing; more room does not guarantee sleep.

Why do older Avianca A320 cabin photos look different?

Older reviews may show a previous interior, while Avianca says some aircraft still have varying seat features during its refit. Use the seat map and cabin information for your own flight instead of treating one photograph as a fleet-wide specification.

Does buying an Avianca upgrade guarantee adjacent family seats?

No. Avianca's purchased-upgrade terms say it assigns an available Business Class seat without guaranteeing a particular seat or location. Confirm an acceptable adult-and-child arrangement before paying.
