Our research method

# How we check our guides

Official information, attributed family reporting, and visible limits—so you can judge what each guide can and cannot support.

A traceable process

## Four checks shape every recommendation

A useful family-travel guide should make the age fit, practical tradeoffs, and source behind important claims easy to find.

### Start with primary sources

Hours, entry rules, minimum ages, fees, and schedules are checked against the operator or public authority responsible for them.

### Cross-check family reports

We look across separate parent accounts for recurring patterns. A single story stays an anecdote; disagreement stays visible.

### Check fit and freshness

We consider age, pace, cost, and logistics, then date-check details that can change before a family travels.

- Primary facts: hard details are checked with the official source that owns the rule or information.
- Realistic logistics: transfer time, budget, food, access, and recovery needs matter alongside the headline attraction.
- Specific age fit: a guide names who a pick may suit and where an age mismatch could make the day harder.
- Clear attribution: readers can tell the difference between a source-backed fact, a reported family pattern, and our editorial judgment.

Evidence, in context

## How we weigh a source

Different claims need different kinds of evidence. We use four tiers and do not treat a review summary as proof of a hard fact.

- T1 · Primary and official: information from the operator or authority itself, such as a park’s height chart, a resort fact sheet, an airline policy, or a tourism board. Required for hard facts like prices, age limits, and opening hours.
- T2 · Professional editorial: staffed publications with a clear methodology, used for comparative work we have not carried out ourselves.
- T3 · Community first-hand: people describing their own visit in parent forums, destination-specific communities, named family blogs, or family videos. These reports are attributed and are not presented as our experience.
- T4 · Aggregate signal: patterns across many reviews that help show general direction, but are not used as a specific quotation or a substitute for an official check.

An experiential statement such as “queues tend to peak mid-afternoon” needs at least three independent T3 reports, or one T1 source plus two T3 reports. A price or age limit needs a current T1 source. When sources disagree, we describe the split instead of silently choosing one account.

Clear boundaries

## What we do not claim

- We do not write a fabricated first-person trip report or imply that the editorial desk visited or stayed somewhere it did not.
- We do not invent star ratings, product tests, awards, or “editor verified” marks without the underlying work and evidence.
- We do not turn another site’s review data into a TravelWithKids score. We identify where claims come from and link to the source.
- A paid partnership does not determine an independent “best of” pick. Any paid placement is disclosed separately; see our [editorial policy](https://www.bestplacestotravelwithkids.com/editorial-policy/).

Keep the guide useful

## Updates and corrections

Prices, opening hours, access rules, and age policies can change. Guides show a checked date for details that need current verification, and we revisit them as information changes. If something looks outdated or conflicts with the source you found, [send us the page and detail](https://www.bestplacestotravelwithkids.com/contact/) so we can review it.
